Remembering legendary banjo player and comedian David "Stringbean" Akeman. On this date in 1973, he and his wife Estelle were shot and killed by two burglars after the couple returned to their rural Tennessee home. He had just performed at the Grand Ole Opry. The two men, who were cousins, were convicted of murder. One died in prison. The other was granted parole in 2014, after serving 41 years of a 198-year sentence. | GatorRock
