Spring peepers are coming out of hibernation making their distinct chirping sounds. 🐸 Have you heard them? DYK, due to the spring peepers' permeable skin, they are highly sensitive to pollution. The Spring Peepers are still going strong. A sound of spring, the chorus of peepers is the sound of the male frogs calling to the females to mate. Only male peepers can sing. They are nocturnal insectivores that are only about one to one and a half inches long. What a sound from a tiny frog! Their calls have registered up to 90 decibels about the level of a lawn mower! We've been enjoying the melodious chorus of spring peepers! In spring, they’re one of the first species to start calling, with males emitting a high-pitched "peep" at one-second intervals. Breeding season begins in February and lasts until June. Males call from the water’s edge, where females can lay up to 900 eggs, which are fertilized as they’re laid.
