Mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani was seen serving hot chocolate following his inauguration ceremony on Thursday.Jeff Coltin posted this footage to X of Mamdani filling cups and greeting men described as city events staff.

During his public inauguration ceremony at New York City Hall on New Year's Day, Mamdani was sworn in by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, a Brooklyn-born independent and fellow democratic socialist who has been an ideological ally, before addressing the crowd.

The demonstration, staged by around ten members of the Unhoused Activist Community Team (U-ACT), called on the city to increase its support for people without stable housing. It took place at Thursday’s two-hour inauguration ceremony at Fair Haven School, where a host of local elected officials were sworn in to a new term in office.
